to get the stud out it can help if you remove the first 1mm of aluminium surrounding the stud with a bit of skilled dremmeling. that is where 90% of the corrosion is and there is still plenty of thread left behind.

and regarding this Forum, I agree. of all the owners forums I am on, this is the only one I am active on for exactly the reasons you said..... very few keyboard warriors on here and when there is one the rest of us close it down by self policing.

everybody on here acts the same behind the keyboard as they do when you meet them, there is very little ego and a lot of heart & sole. [r sole?]

Now that's what I call a Jockstrapping

Get some heat around the base of that too as the ally head will expand faster than the stud. Most of us at some stage or another have come across exhaust stud issues. Bloody nightmare they are.

Try getting a hinge pin out of a dhollandia tuckaway tail lift! I Hate Steel in ali. I normally prefer lager bolts and a gas axe but I am sure if am gentle she will come out.

Bolt is out after welding a nut and it snapping we then heated gently with a small gas axe to try and break the seal with expansion and welded a plate with a hole drilled in it to the remaining stump. Thought it was going to snap again, but flush this time but a tappy tappy (gently) and it came out (will post pictures of the method later, worked well) a very nerve wracking 1 hour!

Well done, it's always nerve racking but you got there.

There wasn't much stud left in the end after welding a nut on failed, a piece of plate was used with a hole drilled and a mig weld, then tapped gently with a hammer. A small weldors gas axe came in handy to give it some heat a few times to let the contracting move things a little. It was jammed well!

Also re tapped the holes afterward to remove remaining corrosion.

As you can see form your last pic the end of the thread has little serrated teeth which grip the aluminum alloy head- presumable to hold the stud still when trying to undo the nut.
This, of course, makes it hard to unscrew the stud....

Good method, worked well enough anyway.

I've been known to use that trick before, only I use a longer piece of flat bar and an Arc welder. I find an Arc welder gets the stud hotter than a Mig welder does, which I think helps.

Glad to hear you got it (or them) removed, taking your time and being patient obviously paid off, well done
