Starter motor refurbishment service.

Post by agentpineapple »

I've decided to offer a starter motor refurbishment service.

refurbished starter motor for £75 includes shipping within the mainland uk
the refurbishment includes the unit being fully disassembled all the relevant parts are then put through an heated ultrasonic cleaning, any broken or worn parts will be replaced.
the outer casing is then prepped and sprayed with an acid etch primer, followed by two coats of silver paint and two more coats clear satin lacquer to guard against corrosion.
please believe me when I say this isn't a money making scheme, with the time it takes and the cost of tools and replacement parts, I wouldn't consider it worth my time, but I enjoy making use of old parts and making them work again, if it helps fellow bikers and it's good for the planet that's an added bonus.
it is worth noting that the mitsuba sm-13 starter motor also fits the sp1 and sp2, super blackbird, x-11, xl1000v varadero, 900 hornet, and fireblades up to 2003.
the cheapest pattern part/new starter I can find online is over £100, and personally I don't like these Chinese copies.
so if you know of a friend in need of this service, feel free to give them my details.

I can also supply unpainted refurbished starter motors for £60

all the best

That's a good price Marty

The cheapest used one on the bay of evil is £45 inc postage, but most are nearer the £70 - £80 mark and are covered in crap

Well done fella I think that is a great call

Great idea.
Wonder if you could powder coat or tuff paint them?
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

no reason why they could be painted, not sure about powder coating the main casing, as the magnet is inside, not sure how that would fair in an oven.
I might paint one black and see how it looks....

hi mate
as you are a valued member of the forum, i'd be more than willing to offer you a discount on a starter motor. how would £25 + postage for an exchange, or £40 for non exchange.
i'll only offer deals like this to long standing and trusted members.
my offer will stand for as long as I have starter motors mate.....
all the best
