Firestorm riding postion mod

Post by karenvtr »

Hi everyone, Im Chris ( Karen's fella) Hope you dont mind that iv nicked her account for a little while but iv logged in hoping that you guys can help me out with something ...

Karen has been having issues with her Storm hurting her back and im looking at ways to make the riding style more comfortable. Iv looked at raising the bars but which ever way I look at it I cant seem to do it without trimming the upper fairing and this is an absolute no no as far as Karen is concerned

I was then hoping to make some drop plates for the pegs, I spotted this picture on a 9r forum

Admittedly this is a rough example but im in the midst of making a much cleaner version for my ZX10. Having looked at the VTR tho this just doesnt look like possible option

I would massivly appreciate any suggestions which would allow a more upright riding position but without cutting the fairing.

Appologies once again for the account hack,( I did ask Karen's permission before logging on lol ) but id really like to get it sorted for her as she loves the bike to bits and I want her to be able to keep riding it for years to come ............... O yeah and I might get a look in on my ZX9 every once in a while

Any help appreciated.

Cheers guys

Chris :D

Hi Chris. There are some after market pegs available that fit straight on to the yoke/Clevis pin. The footrest is on an eccentric. Think they are made by Harris so will be expensive. You might find them on Demon Tweeks web.

yeh chris, i posted somewhere about this in reply to something karen had said....

i got a set of harris rearsets for mine which greatly improved the riding position for me... from a comfort point of view, not making it racier.
only paid 100 for them.
you could also remove the bottom allen bolt from the footpeg bracket and knock the bracket up / down a bit, then make a bracket up to reach the hole.
youd need to adjust the gear linkage but it'd be worth it for a quick fix.

re the fairing mods - the ony issue with fitting the higher vfr bars is the master cylinders touch the fairing at full lock.
easiest way round this without trimming the fairing is to fit some lower master cylinders.
these are the ones ive got on mine...

theyre off my old cbx750f - they also look better than tthe originals imo & improve braking no end

there's a brake mc here http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/OB-HONDA-CBX7 ... 5d2fb6a937

theres a clutch mc as well for a tenner but it looks fkt.
well worth doing. i got the viffer bars for £40 - think mine were off a later vfr800.
only thing you need to do with them is grind off the locating pps on the rh switchgear or drill a new hole in the bars...

you will probably find though that just fitting the rearsets will have the desired effects - mines back on std bars now and its perfect for me. no wrist / back ache at all.
You do not have to say anything. But it may harm your defence if you do not mention when posting something which you later rely on in quote. Anything you do say may be ripped to sh*t.

I think there are 3) options as benny and simo have covered.

1) fit adjustable rearsets. My Gilles ones allow you to go forward and down as well as up and back from standard position.http://www.gillestooling.com/uploads/pr ... n_engl.pdf

2) fit a new peg with a dogleg drop like these vario parts http://www.bustersclassic.co.uk/proddet ... prod=MFWVP
Also a post where some buell pegs have been used http://www.superhawkforum.com/forums/te ... 399/page2/

3) as the standard mount plates pivot on the swingarm mount, if you undo the lower bolt it will be possible to rotate down, but you might have to remove the exhaust mount, and like benny said, you will have fabricate a new way of attaching the lower bolt. Some guys on USA forum have done this mod to make the peg higher, the link is here, but you might need to be a member to see the photos! Nope, just found a 4th option on the Superhawk site

It uses Zx9 parts so you are sorted!

( Chris here again)

Fantastic info there lads  It would be rude not to try the last option as I have quite a few pegs from early zx9s lying around. Ill give it and go and let you know how I get on !!

Thanks again :D

This is an old old thread... But to offer y'all yet another footpeg lowering option.

If retaining OEM visuals & reliability is a priority, we can simply rotate the footrest mounts down around the swing arm axle.

At the expense of a couple small pieces of alloy plate, some minor engineering and a few hours, might be a worthwhile option for some of you.

The pics reflect non-standard exhaust mods but new footrest/exhaust mounts may also have to be fabricated.

Here you go...
