And so it begins

Post by lanny »

Having picked a 98 vtr up last week i got chance to look over it tonight, first impressions are that although the low 8.5k miles are genuine, i dont believe it has had a minutes worth of maintenance or care.
As i have bought this as a bit of a project im not to concerned, the engine is sweet and under all the build up of dirt i believe a decent bike exists.
10 mins with the spanners removed the plastics and cans for now.
First job is the stopper mod so a read up of how is next the its a good clean to see whats worth saving and then the spend begins.
Couple of pics as i know we like pics.

No bins in the picture

If doing stopper mod I would put new standard tensioners on first, bit more messing about to do but the springs will be new and not 20 odd years old to start with.

Hopefully she'll scrub up well!

PS One of the first things I fit to any bike's brake caliper to avoid much gnashing & expletives...

Yep the lines are like coral, tried both geny cover caps and easy peasy..............thank fook.
Bike has done 14 miles since 2010, been stood in a builders workshop so an inch of dust covered it, i feel like i have rescued it and hopefully i can get her attractive and fit again.

A nice low mileage engine, so something to work with for a good bike

A project worth saving. It does look a bit dirty but for a bike of this age condition is acceptable.
