VTR1000 Prototype story

Post by Wicky »

https://bike-lineage.org/honda/vtr1000/ ... otype.html

Worth bunging through a translator this cartoonish geneology of the Thunder 998 ... Superhawk ... Firestorm ... BinMagnet ...

From this in 1986...

Mr. Saito of the Chief Engineer and other development members made technical verifications of these proposals, and it was the fact that they were united by rubbing each other.
Setting the tone for VTR owner gatherings in later years

I wonder if Honda designers & engineers (probably now retired) swing by the forums, like this one, of their creations to see how they've grown up and are regarded... ( at chap responsible for CCTs!)
It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.

An interesting find Wicky
You can see the Katana style seat and tail unit on the first bike and the earlier Blade in the second bike. Looking at that the Firestorm, it came out very well IMHO looks wise.

It would be interesting to know if the designers do check out this forum I agree :)

Top pic reminds me of an 80's Suzuki 400 impulse

2nd pic is a Bros/Hawk frame with Fireblade forks/swingarm/wheels etc,

Engines in either I don't recognise, good job they're ugly

The article does mention they where used as inspiration so you assumption is spot on. For anyone reading the translated pages donlt forget to clickon the links to the right for more info and things progressed throuout the years. What was intresting is that they say they added an extra 2l to the tank sothat would either meant that the early ones are in fact 15l rather than 16 or the later ones are 18 instead of 19. They also talk about the pistons counter balancing each other out.

  that is true, but Honda engineers are on a budget, they have to make a profit to survive,
