Received mine this morning, and is now fitted to bike.
What a fantastic piece of engineering!! and such a smart idea too.
I think you need to get in touch with optimate......
Many thanks, Chris.
Glad you all find it useful. It's an omission on the part of the makers of Optimate - they could easily come up with a cheap plastic moulding if they wanted. Slight problem in that there are many different bikes to cater for...
If there's someone who's asked for one and doesn't get it within the next day or so let me know, I think I got everyone but organisation isn't a strong point with me
Got mine when I got home tonight.
Geez Hankie. Great job
Just been out to shakedown a new BT021 (and that was soooooo much better than my centre flattened BT020 I can't tell ya).
Going to fit it now as a lovely sunny evening in Kent!!!
This should glint nicely in this weather.
Done.
I fitted it differently because :- a) I could! ; b) I think it looks better 'underslung' and mounted inside the frame rail; c) it lowers the C of G ; d) if the bike ever gets wet there are two less socket cap screws to hold water on the top.
Disadvantage to this method is if I remove it then there'll be two tiny marks from the retaining grub screws on the frame rail. Nowt to worry about there then!!!
Hankie. I see yours is a MK 1 version due to the non counterbored retainer section to 'sink' the socket cap screws. That makes ours even better eh? Super job.
"Only ride as fast as your guardian angel can fly" !!!
Took delivery of lovely shiney thing in post today
Right, best fit it to bike ......
First thought, wonder if it'll go behind rear peg hanger? It'll be nice and out of the way there
Oh yes!!!! - Result!!! (Like Spain V Russia!)
Bugger!
Not quite enough clearance for the tab on the rubber cap to allow full, water tight closure without a great deal of fiddling
Maybe cut the tab off "Hmmm but what if you do that and it still don't fit, might also be a faff to undo"
Aha! If I invert it, there's a nice space further back on the sub frame just before the seat pod edge!!!
Dammit Dammit Dammit
Just not quite enough space for it but only by a couple of mm!!!
Either weld on rear peg mounting or strengthening plate on subframe in the way! A slightly modified version would fit, but I really don't want to start attacking my pretty shiney thing when I only just got it - perhaps another day
Oh well guess I'll have to conform for a change
Pretty Shiney thing now fitted.
A slightly taller version would fit lovely behind either rear hanger.
A slightly filed, cut, modified version would fit further towards rear of bike too.
These are by no means criticisms - just observations.
Both 'may' also be slightly better positioned in respect of rain etc.
I had to laugh at LSM - 'lowers centre of gravity'. If I'd known you were going to fit it that way up I would've polished it's butt-end instead.
If PayPal is easier... my account address is the same as the email address I gave earlier [chrisheapy at ntlworld dot com]. Otherwise I'll email with my postal address. I don't want to post both here.
