Longer kickstand/sidestand

Post by mik_str »

For those who are running a shim in the rear and would like to use a longer sidestand to compensate:

"To all of you guy's that raised the rear shock or if you didn't but you feel the kick stand is not doing the job and the bike is leaning to deep and/or flexing due to the crappy design of the kick stand, you can swap it with just the kick stand arm from a CBR1000RR 04-07 that fits almost perfectly in the original kick stand bracket, you may need to grind the front just to get it to the correct angle when fully open so the bike will not fall forward.
The best part about this fix is that the CBR1000RR kick stand is about one inch longer, it is tubular, lighter and does not flex like the OEM stand, as such the whole bike is more stable on the stand, "

If it holds the bike at a more upright position it`s longer.......

I know what he means though- longer isn't always resulting in a more upright bike.
Ever seen the sidestand on a Norton Commando?

They're about 700 mm long, but are at such an angle that they swing forwards and outwards, rather than just down.

While we're there, I had 600 Hornet a while back, and that was designed so that if the back tyre went down (nail in the tyre three times in three years) the sidestand would push the bike over onto it's RH side.... Most annoying.

Although once a conveniently-parked car kept it from falling over completely- the're useful sometimes!
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

I dont mind the lean angle on mine, not noticed a difference to be honest also have the 6mm shock spacer fitted, if anything it must help it drip dry in garage after its been pissing down on the way home

Seb, would'nt your 954 forks make the front end lower, thereby reducing the effect on the stand?
