Big scary day tomorrow (Sat 14/1)

Post by Jester666 »

Time to do the CCTs!! 8O

Got all the instructions and the manual CCTs.

Just want to confirm some things.

1. Thread lock on the long bolt of the manual CCTs?
2. No need for a gasket on the new ones just use Loctite 222 or similar? (according to the instructions from Rider on a Storm)
3. Dont refit the metal caps?

Everything else seems pretty straight forward.

Cheers

good luck fella !!!

You will be just fine.

You will still get an butt clenching moment when you fire her up for the first time after fitting the cct's (even if you turn it over by hand first)

(1) yes, but you'll need to do the final adjustments first.

(2) I think loctite 222 is a threadloc  Many use just gasket sealant, but I prefer to use a gasket.

(3) No, metal caps not needed on the manual CCT's.

My advice is, take your time and check everything twice. Once you've fitted the CCT's and set the tension, before putting it all back together turn the engine over two or three times first. If all turns freely put it back together then starter her up.

Chris.

All done! :D

Bit scary on the first push of the starter but all good! No death rattles any more! :)

The old nasty ones!! Anyone want them before they are consigned to the Great Dodgy Honda Bits part of Hell?

There was no metal cap on the front one (Left in the pic)! I presume this is NOT normal? You can see the wear on the rubber bit.

Also, I spotted this when I took off the airbox cover...

Can I buy this anywhere or do I just chop up an old kitchen sponge?

Anyway, I can now relax and not worry about riding a 43k mile bike on original CCTs!

It's not uncommon to see the end cap missing.
People replace them but don't know that you have to swap the end cap over to the new one.
It's a dead giveaway when you see on e with a circular mark on the end.

Job well jobbed, you must be relieved.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Pretty chuffed overall, especially as I forgot to lock off the old ones to get a guesstimate for the new ones!

Biggest job I've done on the 'Storm so far. And it's gone well!

I too recently changed mine and even after turning engine by hand that first press of the button is a bit daunting :eek2
But ride with more confidence knowing my bike cct issue's sorted
