longer sidestand

Post by carlos1982 »

for those wishing to change their sidestands!
after i installed the suspension shim, my bit leaned over too far, and as a result fell over, so i went searching for an alternative sidestand.
the cbr1000 was suggested, however at between £50- £80 was a tad expensive.
i am lucky enough to have an x-11 in my garage and found that the sidestand from that fits and works well on the vtr, and they are available for £15-£25 off fleabay.
i will add the heal kick bit is a little short, but i find it fine to use!

Nice alternative mate. How much longer is the X-11 stand compared to the VTR?

Nice discovery mate, well done. How did it fit on. Did you just use the shaft and spring? and what about the cut out switch. Was it all a simple swap?

Anyway glad you got it sorted.

straight swap mate, just relaced the shaft, cut out swiches are the same fit and i used the vtr spring as it has a little bit more tension, took all of about 10 minutes to fit while swigging on a nice cold beer :P

Blackbird stands fit the same but again you need to weld on an extended prong...

Here's one I did earlier...

Got 5 sitting on the bench in the MacCave awaiting modifying...

I got myself a x-11 stand but struggling to fit.

Can anyone who has replaced one of these confirm that one of the fixings is a stud and the other is a Long bolt that goes right through

Hope that makes sense ????

OK the bolt No5 goes through the stand which slots over the bracket No3 the stand is threaded on the back part, screw it in then do the nut No8 up on the back. The switch slots on & bolt No7 scerws in through the switch into the bolt No5.

The plate No3 bolts on to the engine bracket but you shouldn't have to take that off or the No3...Sometime when you get 2nd hand ones the mounting plate come with it so take it off if it has & your original is still in place...If you have taken the No3 plate off then good luck in not stripping the threads in the engine plate...Been there done that...

As a top tip...put the spring on before you bolt it all up muchoss easier ...
