coolant
going to service bike and want to kmow best type of coolant to use and how much is needed
Re: coolant
Any, but it should be silicate-free and suitable for alloy engines.
Coolant colour doesn't matter, unlike paint
(Unless you have a Samco transparent hose conversion)

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
Re: coolant
I normally buy 5l at a time as what's left over is good for topping from time to time.
Pre-mixed with Anti freeze/summer coolent

Re: coolant
Would there be any downside (other than more cost) to use 100% antifreeze? Instead of using 50/50

Re: coolant
I don't think that would be a good idea. The water is needed to help circulate the anti freeze around the system which aids in the cooking process. Why would you want to put 100% anti freeze in.
I don't think they even put that much in vehicles that travel in Arctic conditions.

Re: coolant
Yep slight misspell there.
unless there is 100% in there, and then it will be cooking.

Re: coolant
Was just curious if it could be done or any benifits
Re: coolant
I would go for pre mixed imo, I've just redone mine with the stuff you mix at home and it's running hotter than with the pre mix stuff, and hummmmm?

Re: coolant
did you use tap water to mix it ?seb421 wrote:I would go for pre mixed imo, I've just redone mine with the stuff you mix at home and it's running hotter than with the pre mix stuff, and hummmmm?

distilled water should be used in the cooling system when mixing coolant

Re: coolant
No probs, thanks. I'll use the premix next time then. I used the neat version and mixed it mi self (tap water) in traffic the temp gauge always goes straight o half and kicks the fan in.
I'll see if premix keeps it a bit cooler
thanks for the pointers

Re: coolant
100% neat in alloy engines all the time......stops limescale....or tony's way...... water still boils at 100 degrees and antifreeze/summer coolant boils higher
