make sure you cover the bearings, do what tony does, run the spindle thru the wheel with large washers on either end, because masking tape will not protect them during blasting, as for paint code, i don't think it really matters if its a normal gloss black.
i'd go for a metallic gunmetal grey myself......

As BSM said go for bog standard black if black is what you want , however if you want a dark metallic grey finish that's the same as the pre-2001 engine covers

For just £12 400ml of GCC7026 Dark Grey Metallic (with a hint of brown) ME068547BC should do the trick. Prepare surface by stripping old paint, keying with wet&dry, or alternatively sand blast > degrease, mask up and prime with etch-primer before applying layers of finish. Not sure on lacquer as they are a satin finish and most readily available lacquers are i.e. Simoniz are gloss.

For later models with the more goldy coloured covers owners might try HYCOTE vauxhall titanium pearl / halfords VAUXHALL TITANIUM SILVER

HOW-to for BMW engine covers that demonstrate the principles:

It may be that your whole purpose in life is simply to serve as a warning to others.
