No spark

Hi guys, I'm wondering if anyone has experience of a loss of spark?
I rolled to a stop at a junction and the engine cut out and would not fire up again.
Back home in the garage I find there's no spark.
Disconnecting side stand switch, neutral switch and holding in clutch all make no difference.
Next thought is regulator has failed and fried cdi or igniter, just swapped all 3 units off a pal's project and still no spark!
The next option I can see is ignition pulse pick up, though I have never heard of one failing before, and I'm going to have to put my hand in my pocket to get one to try.

So- while I wait for my friendly postie, does anyone have any other suggestions? Possible causes, tests I could make?

Edit: You've mentioned that you swapped that

Work your way through the list

• Loose or disconnected ignition system wires
• Broken or shorted spark plug wire
• Faulty ignition pulse generator
• Faulty ignition coil
• Faulty engine stop switch
• Faulty ignition control module (lCM)
• Faulty converter unit
• Faulty ignition switch

Handy you've got access to a friend's bits for swapping in.

try a new kill switch or give it a clean

If you have no spark then start with the plugs. Is it just the one cylinder not sparking or is it both. If it's just the one cylinder then try swapping the plugs around to see if the problem reverses.

As Cyber says. Start at the easy end, Plugs, plug caps & leads then coils which can be tested using a multi tester. Primary winding set tester to ohms & it should read 0.4-0.8, Secondary winding set tester to kohms & it should read 17.0-19.0 with the plug cap on. Without the plug cap you should get 12.0-14.0. Cap resistance on its own should be about 5 kohms

Sorted.
Ignition pulse generator had come slack and the rotor had cut a groove in it.
So- replacement fitted and the long way taken to the beer shop for a test run and reward.
Sounds beautiful and slippier that a bucket of swarfega and snakes.

Good detective work; never heard of that problem on here before .
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!
