Glad I pulled the Back End Off the Bike
As a lot of you know I have posted on another thread about the rear end problem that I had -- NOT me, the bike. It is in the following thread http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=9&t=33112
Anyway when I went to replace the very rear triangular link plate back into the swingarm after I had cleaned it up I found that it would not rotate.
So I removed the distance piece which the two needle bearing run on.
I then removed both of the needle bearings.
The picture below shows the good bearing.
The following pictures show the bad bearing:
The pictures below showed how I removed the bearings:
The last picture above shows the link plate with both bearings removed.
Question: It can be seen that there is no shoulder for the new bearing to butt against to allow the correct distance for the dust seal to be placed on the end afterwards. Any tips on doing this (getting the bearing located correctly).
Lat picture. Trying to work out the bearing size/Part #
Thanks

Re: Glad I pulled the Back End Off the Bike
Glad you figured this out now before it broke linkage and caused a wreck. The first time I got into the linkage i was shocked to see it had been taken care of very well. Greased and clean and no rust. Little bits of care to a bike go a long way in keeping it on the road. bikes need more than oil gas and tires...

What's the mileage on the bikes before the bearing goes? Anyone got any data on this?

The condition of the bearings depends on so many variables, has it been stood outside? Ridden through winter? Scuba diving in the costa del swampa?kitsun wrote:What's the mileage on the bikes before the bearing goes? Anyone got any data on this?

Best to check them once every year imo.

Re: Glad I pulled the Back End Off the Bike
Ok i checked the parts list. In the event i choose to replace all the bearings i would need:-
4 needle bearings 91072-KT7-003 number 17 of size 17x24x20
1 needle bearing 91071-KV3-005 number 20 and of unstated size.
So anyone know the size of the needle bearing with part number 91071-KV3-005 as stated in http://www.ronayers.com/REAR-SHOCK-ABSO ... 75558.aspx

And also if it's been pressure washed !
Re: Glad I pulled the Back End Off the Bike
Found it!!!
4 needle bearings 91072-KT7-003 number 17 of size 17x24x20
1 needle bearing 91071-KV3-005 number 20 and of unstated size = 91071-KV3-005 17x24x25
We've got to store this somewhere so its easy to search. I'll post it up with the appropriate headings.
