not the normal question about cct

Post by bazzashadow »

I am having my cct changed and valve clearances done.
I was with my mechanic friend as he done them and he done the rear first then as he went to do the front we noticed the cap missing off the cct.
would this of been left off for a reason or just someone before had forgot it?
thanks

no
had a very good look and got a panic on
but when looking at the end of the tensioner you can see a big indent of where it has sat on the guide

It's not really a problem, well maybe long term but the spring would fail before it would wear through  When I got mine it the previous owner had a Big well known Honda dealer change them, when I got it I stoppered them and the caps were missing, you don't get them with new ACCT's you have to swap them, they didn't. No problem for me as I had spare caps from doing MCCT's for customers.

Assuming your changing to Manual's there's no problem, if your putting new Auto's in then You should really get a new cap.

It's not at all times unusual.
Oftentimes people just try to replace like for like and don't remember to swap the cap over.
Still, you fitted manuals, didn't you? The design on manuals doesn't need a cap.
You only need a cap if you're doing the stopper mod, or, if you love taking chances, replace with another standard one.

The cap is important as it lets the tensioner slide against the back of the tensioner blade.
If the rubber end is trying to slide in the blade, even lubricated with oil, it won't, especially when under tension from the spring.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Why?
There is no good reason not to fit manuals
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!
