To the OP, ditch the OEM diode based RR and get a real FH or SH regulator, install it with good marine grade tinned wire, bypassing the OEM wiring harness, using Furukawa connectors sealed connectors
not only to you get a robust RR that will likely never fail You get modern sealed connectors and the direct wiring to the batter though a circuit breaker will net you some to a lot of increased charge voltage, a little if you wiring harnesses in good condition, a lot if it or the current plugs are not in great shape.
