Post by BrianC »

Sometimes my bike will start , other times it wont.

Bike is on an optimate all time, but when i have been trying to start it gwts lazy pretty quickly and when optomate is re connected it start charging again.

Jumped it from an old car battery and it fires up immediately.

Im suspecting battery isnt up to it and have been doing some research

14.
You lose the battery lid is all, then everything else fits.
But the best solution is a lifepo one, it won't go flat over the winter and saves bucket loads of weight.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

I've heard so many times "it's been on an optimate all the time" then the battery is flat. I never leave them on, if the battery is good i'd give it a charge every couple of weeks in winter if it's not used or in summer if not used maybe once a month.

Motobatt is a very heavy battery and big for the box, a Yuasa in the correct fitment will be good or a lithium as Tony said but best get yourself an onboard volt meter as lithiums can go up in smoke (or flames) if over charged (reg/rec), 14.9 volts is their limit, good ones shouldn't have a problem as they have an internal fuse but it doesn't always work as I saw good brand one melted not long ago.

I run lithium batteries in 3 bikes. you would need a charger which works with lithiums, like a Noco Genius.

But it might be worth checking the starter motor terminal first, also the earth lead, just in case that's what's needed.
