Speedo on a parallel

Post by BrianC »

Ive never got to the bottom of the speedo on my first storm!!!!

The only scale on the dial reads 0-280 as per the km scale on a dual scale uk spec but it looks like mph sticker on the dial face.
Tbh ive never ridden it on the road so i dont know how it works

Im just wondering if the speed sensor is different

I do have a new mph/kmh speedo but not sure if it will work.

I think someone previously mentioned a 'speedo healer' - where would that be ?

Getting ready to sell this is one so want to get to bottom of this

Photo of the speedo?

From what you say it could be continental European VTR import.

I've got a prototype MPH speedo face you can try if you take the old face off > speedo face removal & replace > posting.php?mode=edit&f=9&p=469515

I dont have a non US one to test, so take this for what it is an Educated WAG.

By part number they are the same sensor UK , Japanese and US. But I have limited non US parts resources so I could be wrong.

and the two faces KPH only and US/KPH seem to line up for KPH tick marks

Yup Km/h speedo from a Euro bike - with a sticker on the face with mph - was there a clear vinyl mph vinyl overlay on the 'glass' face?

Presumably the odometer is showing Kms - Replace with the spare clock cluster or I've got a proper mph face

exact same unit, only the odometer (reading) is different (my original one was metric, now running Imperial on which I changed the gauge face colour).

No overlay on the outside of the face
Im guessing the odometer is reading kms
I'll try and get it out on the road soon actually see where needle goes!!

Just a bit of an update

I put my uk storm on the padock stand , in first and took revs to 3500 and the standard mph dial read about 20mph.

Then put my other one ie with the european spec speedo, first gear, 3500 revs and it read about 20 on the dial.

Just concerned if i fit my new uk spec it will read wrong

Am i over complicating this?

I also suspect the odometer reading is kms

I've just bought one in a job lot. I don't really need it. Make me an offer? The dash has obviously been disassembled and then just stuck back together. The clocks are loose in the dash. If you are interested I'll take it apart and see what gives.

Stranger and stranger!!!!!

I actually have a spare instrument panel so i have just fitted that

3500 revs in first - barely touching 15mph - in fact to get to 20mph needed 5000 rpm

Stumped at moment !!!!!

And that 15mph equates to about 20kph

I wonder !!!!!!

Not sure what i wonder, but i wonder!!!

Perhaps i need to check all wiring back and see if there is any gizmo anywhere

Surely it is simple to check the part number for a European one and a UK sensor?
If they're the same, then fit and forget.
It's easy to check the speedo reading against a satnav option on your phone, and fit a speedohealer if it's out by much.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
