Got round to having a quick look at the spares engine i collected last week - this is the one without the clutch cover and with a lump out of the front cam cover. I just wonder if its out of an accident bike - there was no history available frpm the seller.
Put a couple of ades mccts temporarily (there was no ccts on the engine ) then tried to check the timing but the engine would only turn so far before locking up with a clunk from the front pot i think.
So it looks like its had a cct mishap i suspect
Ill crack the front head off when i get time
It was only £50 so i dont feel robbed!!!
My spares engine
Re: My spares engine
Have the cam covers off: that way you can see which cam is pushing a valve down at the point that the engine locks.
A secondhand engine is usually sold for a reason, one for 50 quid is unlikely to be running perfectly
It's still an easy fix

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
