Sprockets and Speedo readings

Post by TheBozBoz »

As I'm fairly new to the vtr and have no idea where the speedo takes it reading from; Im wondering if dropping the front sproket a tooth and raising the rear maybe 2-4 will effect the speedo accuracy. I'm planning on swappi g wheels to my r6 wheel and the rear sprockets go about as low as 43! Anyway, I can see no speedo cable going to the front wheel but thought maybe it's driven from the sprocket cover?! Any advice appreciated cheers!

Speedo sensor is mounted on the r/h side of engine casing I think it must take it's reading off the gear box...

Changing the sprockets will alter the reading...

Cheers Mac. Right so my next question: who has experience of correcting the speedo with different gearing setups?

I found an online calculator that worked out different gearing to speedo error I geared mine down and it was 5 mph less than speedo showed. I think I posted the link on here somewhere so check my posts.
