to reshim or not, that is the question

Post by Carlosfandango »

Hi all, i have another valve question i could do with your views on.

My bike has just done 16,000 miles so whilst replacing the CCT's I checked the valves.

Everything was spot on apart fom the from the right front exhaust - this was at 0.35 just outside tollerance.

Do I need to go to all the effort to reshim that one valve or leave it for another 16K?

Thanks

Carlos

Even though the bike should run fine and make it another 16K...........

I personally would bring it back into tolerance.

All the effort?
If you already have it apart for measuring it's not much more to reshim it.
Why not just do it properly?
The tolerances are there for a reason.

That's like saying your tyres only a few pounds under.

Thanks guys, the only reason i asked was that I read elsewhere on the forum that the clearances tend to tighen up rather than get larger.

I shall get reshiming at the weekend! The front is a bit akward to get at, radiators will be coming off as well

Lets hope nothing falls in the engine

You certainly don't need to take off the rads, just undo the oil cooler and lean it on the rear of the front mudguard on a rag.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
