What's likely to be the cause of this?

it is an intermittent electrical issues, but I would start by looking for a bad earth connection

Check your battery terminals are tight as well. I know it sounds daft but something as simple as that can cause all sorts of crap.

id problems on one bit like that, one of the two large block connectors behind the clocks had came loose. two seconds and it was sorted
the older i get,the faster i was :lol:

Did you sort this? I had an errant tacho needle, it was showing like I was on a 2 stroke (off the scale)or nothing, I removed all the wires off the back of the instrument cluster and cleaned them up with my dremel. Seemed to do the trick. :thumbup:

When I had this it was in fact not the battery terminals being loose but the connection at the main fuse was loose.
