Above the air filter?
Why make the upper, non-sealed part bigger?

Surely it's the section UNDER the filter that needs to be bigger.....

What airbox lid screws did you use? I just went through a jar of old self-tappers temporarily, but will sort a better/tidier solution next time I go to the fixings supplier.

I suppose it's worth trying it above AND below the filter, just in case it works better above. But I fitted the spacer (10mm in my case) below the filter.
I think I'll have to slightly relieve the aluminium frame web that goes across the front of the snorkel. It compresses the snorkel and will restrict airflow a little. Head castings look thoroughly strong enough; a mm or two in the snorkel area won't make a difference.

Airbox modding

I've just undone all that welding and cleans parts up.
Refitted the spacer under the filter

And found some m5x35 s/s bolts and they work good for fitting the air box halfs together ImageImage

Where did you get the bolts from?

is the spacer just a butchered air filter or a butcherd air box? i have both of these sitting around but was unsure what bit to use to get a good seal? im planning on putting a spacer below the filter

i have fitted the spacer below the filter now .
the bolts are m5x35 s/s (ebay).
the spacer is a butchered air filter and a butchered air box lid .
i cut the filter as tony did and also the lid .
but i removed the lower/ outer lip on the k&n filter
this made the filter sit just inside the spacer and made a good seal

wicked, this will give me something to do tomorrow, im going to start off with just cutting up the filter and finding some longer screws, my dad has way too many spare screws lying around in the shed. without any jetting or setup mods i doubt ill notice any difference with just the spacer in, im thinking about going changing my stacks to long ones at the same time as im currently running shorties

Looking good mate, but I'm not to keen on the placement of the breather bottle. It's gonna limit your access to the idle adjustment. Couldn't you put it on the other side of the carbs or up front by the snorkel somewhere. And wrap those garden hoses up in black tape. :) Those RC carb filters you listed will be perfect when you get them for the the diaphram air breathers.

Have you thought about what you are going to do with the extra gap around the tank your creating by raising it. You could put a VFR tank on and make some fibreglass infills for the gaps. Do a bit of bodywork tank extensions a bit like the John Brittan rep, sort off a skirt around the tank.

Good work.

i put the bottle their because when i find a suitable oil filler breather connector .
to fit on the clutch case it will run striate up into a + connector .
left and right cam cover breathers.
and bottom clutch cover breather.
top little pod filter .
this will mean i can do away with the bottle altogether.
and any oil that makes it into the breathers will go back into the clutch cover .

the gap around the tank isn't that noticeable to be honest unless you look for it so im not to bothered about it yet.
as for the green garden hose lol the bike will be green soon :D
