Winter mods update(small update 4/1/09)

Post by rst steve »

Well been a busy boy over the past few weeks. Finally got the hang of ebay and managed to bag some good parts for not a lot of money. Now got 4 seperate projects on the go on one bike first one being the R1 seat conversion which is now done apart from the link pipes keep getting let down by people who say they can do it only to chicken out when they see it. The second is to swap the 3 spoke wheels with 6 spoke ones from the blade/vfr this is half done i.e the back one is done using a 98 blade wheel that goes straight on still looking for a front one at a reasonable price. Third job is the bi-xenon headlight conversion this is about 80% done just need a bit of wiring and the headlight sealing back up. Last is the dash one of the things i did'nt like about my storm was the dash always thought it looked old fashioned so i have come up with this.

Much better i think and more upto date still got a few sensors to wire up but should be done tommorrow so will post up some pics when its done.

Last pic the headlight looking good so far.

Todays efforts. Got the dash mounted and all the idiot lights wired. Also done the tacho and speed sensor this was a bit of a pain as i had to make a bracket for the sensor but not to bad. Just got the temp sender to do now but the sensor housing is to small so need to get the right size one or make it work somehow. Also test fired the hid and all is good got lots of adjustment so can get it lined up perfectly only problem is the size of the original ballast its huge so may have to change that for a slimline one. Anyway a few pics.

Your on the right track it's a Vapor dash with a Moorespeed cnc mount really easy to fit too thinking about it. Just been playing with the light and if i get my butt into gear tomorrow i could finish it or at least get to a point where i can show you some beam patterns. Will see if i can get motivated in the moring.

Oh and if your thinking of doing the wheels the hardest part is finding them for a reasonable price. The rear one is a straight swap and the front i am told is too if you get the right one CBR600f3 or vfr800.

Bit of an update. Managed to get the bi-xenon sorted and its awesome gonna be lots more fun riding at night now and got the dash done apart from the temp sender the new part for this is on the way. Put one side of the fairing back but need to leave the other off for now until the new temp sensor comes.

Nice work Steve :!: 8) That light looks amazing, really bright :!: Do you think the standard wiring and charging system will be up to it's demands :?: No doubt you've already thought about that.

The hid system is actually less demanding on the charing system than a standard halogen light. Still used a relay though just to be on the safe side. I have tried pretty much every headlight bulb around and non of them are upto the standard of this. Even the H4 hid kits are not even close they do offer a lot more light than halogen but the beam pattern is awful it spreads the light all over the show. This on the other hand has the power of the hid and a great beam pattern thanks to the projector lense. Will get some better pics when i can get the bike out on the road. :D

Cheers for the info Steve :!: Interesting about the light pattern that some of these H4 HID kits are giving, something I hadn't even considered, but definitely important :!:

Also interesting that your system is less demanding on the charging system than a standard halogen light :!:

I would have fitted a relay too if I were to fit one, even if it is overkill :!:

Ah. For that you need the matching overkill switch on the rh handlebar.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
