front springs and rear shock
ok guys i am used to riding white power suspension and i am looking at upgrading the suspension on the storm
i am unsure what i would need to be honest.
i have found ohlins springs for about £100 but would i need anything else for the forks ??
also what is the best rear shock for the money , cant really afford an ohlins and i am not sure i would use it to its capacity !
also i read about putting a 2 teeth bigger rear sprocket on , what are they as standard so i can have a count on mine.
EDIT: just found this site for WP / ohlins shocks ans springs ? are they the right money ?
http://www.holeshotracing.co.uk/parts/handling.asp
any advice will be appreciated
regards mark

Hi Mark,
I personally would recommend Roger Ditchfield at Revolution UK to rework your front forks. http://www.revolutionuk.co.uk/ Tel 07970 915 259 Roger has a vast experience of the Honda Firestorm, for road work and also the track, I think you'll be hard pushed to find someone else with as much experience as him for our Firestorms
I have a set of forks on my bike reworked by him. They totally transformed the handling for sure, it feels like a different bike
He's a really nice bloke and doesn't mind having a chat (on the phone) about what would best suit you, even if you don't actually buy from him, you can't say that about many today
I'm not sure where you live, but you can post your forklegs to him if you're not close.
Most people in the know recommend linear fork springs and not the progressive type.
As for a good compromise a 43 tooth sprocket on the rear is what a lot use, but it depends what you're after. Remember though any sprocket change will affect the speedo reading. The standard sprockets are 16 tooth front and 41 tooth rear.
Chris.

Had my forks resprung many moons ago and heavier oil. Dropped yokes 5mm-8mm
Similarly, many moons ago, fitted a Hagon shock. Not sexy but cheap and good enough for me (a thousand times better than stock)
43T rear sprocket - only done a few years ago but I wish I had done it much sooner

Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

Don't forget you'll need a longer chain if you up the rear sprocket.....
One tooth down on the front makes the speedo over-read by around 10%, so I'd assume much the same for a 2 over stock rear.
Maybe a bit less.
But a speedo healer sorts it.
I have a 15 tooth front if you want to try it- took it off as I was heading down to Valencia last year and didn't want to do the whole distance halfway up to the rev limiter!

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Tony is getting excited I thinkfirestarter1977 wrote:ah , i was hoping i didnt need a new chainthe one thats on is brand new
thanks for the offer tho matey !!!

Your standard chain will be long enough for plus two teeth on the rear, although the rear wheel will be almost as far forward as it will go, we've had this discussion before

You can fit a 15 tooth sprocket on the front instead (as Tony mentions) but in the long term your chain will last longer with a bigger rear. A smaller front sprocket means a tighter turning radius for the chain, hence making it work harder
