Hi All,
Does anyone know anything about Harpoon pipes and their specs? I've a set that came with the bike last year and wondered if they're any good. Searches yield nothing much other than http://www.harpoon.es (blank, nothing there) and that they changed their name to Kreiger (no mention of Harpoon there). An old brand they may be but they really sound fabulous. Particularly of interest is a figure for any power increase so as to keep the Ins. people sweet with the proposed mod.
Best regards

Re: Harpoon Exhausts
Hi T/P, have not seen you around for a while
Good to see you back again
I can't help you with your Harpoon cans, IE. how much difference in power increase they make, but most race cans on their own (no re-jetting or free flowing air filter fitted) only increase bhp on average by 2 or 3 bhp. Road legal cans with the baffles kept in even less. What I did for my insurance to be on the safe side was to say the increase in bhp was up to 5bhp. Even if your bike with the Harpoon cans has been re-jetted, has a free flowing air filter such as a K & N filter, I doubt it'll be making anymore than 5bhp more, it just feels like it
HTH,
Chris.

Re: Harpoon Exhausts
hiya had aset of harpoons on for the last two years .not had it set up or anything but they do seem to improve the engine slightly especially on the over run (annoys em round town ) . just recently made them into high levels will have to put picture on here soon , was going to try wifes blue flames off her raptor but they looked too big and in your face , so will stay with harpoons for a bit longer , only annoying bit is the back firing through the carbs . and i upped the tick over to stop her stalling round town, otherwise well pleased with them.

Re: Harpoon Exhausts
Thanks for the timely replies chaps.
I wasn't really looking for any appreciable increase in BHP, rather I was looking to 'keep that ripping 'n' rumbling' sound without a mod penalty although I'm due a wee 'penalty' for changing my details
Indeed my carbs get the occasional wee back puff now on a closed throttle slowing down (and I've not had to adjust the idle) but y'know, I kind a like it (provided it's doing any damage). Goodness knows what it will sound like if I remove the rear rings and thankfully no neighbour has cheesed me off sufficiently for me to try it.
And Chris, a pal of mine offers his appreciation of your CCT article; he has a 'fairweather' Varadero and I referred him to it, warning him of the aforementioned parts penchant for destruction, "If you've got pink spots, get to a doctor quick!".
I do drop in from time to time yet you chaps are pretty quick, I've been doing some maintenance of late (Playing with my new Carbtune, overhauling the brakes and popping on a new plate - I just had to get rid of the 'Grim Reaper graphic') in preparation for what I hope will be a better summer than last, eh?
(Now where's the article on personalized number plates....)

I'm pleased too hear T/P a pal of yours (who owns a Varadero) has found my CCT article useful. Iirc the engine is basically the same as the Storm, but slightly lower compression ratio.Twinpotter wrote: And Chris, a pal of mine offers his appreciation of your CCT article; he has a 'fairweather' Varadero and I referred him to it, warning him of the aforementioned parts penchant for destruction, "If you've got pink spots, get to a doctor quick!".![]()

I agree with the pink spots

As you say lets hope we do get a better summer this year. I overhauled my brakes and found the front ones to be a lot better
