Corroded exhaust header clamp conundrum

Post by Wicky »

Image

After my recent underwater excursion thought I'd better check things out and regrease the starter connection.

Pic says it all - the exhaust clamp has borne the brunt of 10 winters and exfoliated itself to the point of disintegration

Problem is how to replace the clamp as it seems like one of those impossible puzzles to get off the one-piece OE exhaust header - and the clamps are not a separate part on the microfiche. So will I have to replace the whole exhaust?

That's shocking Wicky 8O It looks like you're riding through deep water most days

One I feel for the boys who know about welding I think :!:

You'll have to weigh up what's cheapest, to get a new one made (myself, I probably make up one off those and get it dipped, as mild steel will rust quickly else) then cut the stainless steel header put the new piece on and get it welded back together.

Or pick up a 2nd hand set of headers from ebay or a breakers.

Looked on ebay and will possibly be looking at a full SS header replacement, along with gaskets & waterwings from DS.
