Inflating Jackets
Inflating Jackets
This was on the news today. "Can cost up to twice as much as an ordinary jacket" "Should be made compulsory"
They cost about £600. The example shown was of a track day accident where the guy broke his pelvis/ribs etc, but so far as I am aware you can't readliy wear fabric on a trackday, you need leathers anyway.
What do we think? Perhaps compulsory 3 yearly eye tests for drivers would be more useful!

just watched that on local news, what a load of tosh..the lad who binned it racing...whats that got to do with road safety wtf?..he was racing..how many on here do 140 reg down there street....and the muppet that tested the jacket....when he landed in his stunt crash, his hands hit the deck first then his knees/legs finally the jacket...yes the jacket did work...but he'd broke both his hands, one knee..both hips and pelvis at 28 mhp lmfao...................................................................................he didnt really break owt but u get the picture...and i aint buying a £600 dingy

Re: Inflating Jackets
Looks a bit pie in the sky atm for me. With heaps more development maybe they could be of benefit
I think I'll stick with cow skin for the time being though
The main problem with all these ideas/theories/products is that as humans we're not supposed to go from 30,50,60, 100 or whatever mph to a complete stop in zero seconds are we? I don’t think a jacket with a giant balloon in is going to help that really.
Sad fact of biking I’m afraid-you come off its more than likely going to hurt. And that "risk" is probably part of the reason we all ride. Next thing they'll lobby for is all bikes to have a roof and 2 more wheels, oh, damn...
Agree with the eyetest theory Stratman
what about making car drivers take a bike test too? Or elements of?

Crap demo imho!!!! a normal jacket would have been fine in that incedent, lets see him slam into the side of a car at 40mph cos the driver didnt see him.....what a load of crap!!!!
What happens if you get off your bike in Matlock on a nice Sunday afternoon and you forget to unplug it from your bike!!!! you look a tw@ thats what and then your jacket is useless!!!!

I'd like to see indicators made compulsory on cars and lorry'sStratman wrote:This was on the news today. "Can cost up to twice as much as an ordinary jacket" "Should be made compulsory"

Perhaps I should rephrase that, I'd like to see drivers using their indicators

Getting back to the jacket, that's the best one I've seen so far.
A very good point about forgetting to unplug it from Jim

Re: Inflating Jackets
And it wasn't the media that want these jackets made compulsory .
apparently it was a bunch of A&E doctors including one that rides..
in that case i think it should be compulsory for all A&E doctors to be able to speak and understand English.
