I have done a search but my question isnt answered.
I have a blade 6 spoke rear wheel to go on, im assuming this is 5.5" ?
Would i be ok fitting a 190 rear tyre? i have my forks through the yokes a good bit, and i also have a shock spacer if needed.
Just wondering your guys opinions, i got these tyres CHEAP and are nearly new. So dont want them to go to waste.

bike turns in better on 180s, had a 190 on firestorm rim and did not feel right at all, with 180 bike handled better and was more responsive with increased feedback!
1998 Firestorm, 47,000 miles, forks valved & sprung, proflex shock +4mm over standard, manual ccts', k&n, 50#slow 185#/190# mains, front carb slide mod, R6 throttle tube, Tank raised, Viper cans, Coerce fork brace, EBC lite front discs & pads.

I guess its worth trying it tho? u never know i might prefer it lol
i find mine turns in fast as fck atm, ive nearly dropped it a few times thinking i was gonna loose the front , if that makes sense, it felt like the bike turned in that much it was gonna fall.
Maybe its because i have a 120/60 on front at the mo. hmmmm.
Im gonna try the 190, with the 120/60 front, and see what its like lol.

As for your bike turning into quick, if you want to slow it down a little remove the rear shock spacer or don't have quite so much of the fork legs sticking through the yokes.
It's up to you what you do about fitting the 190 tyre, I'm sure others have tried it before. May be someone on here who has will be along shortly.

PS. Oops, I've just re-read SJ's reply, I see he was one of those guy's who's tried a 190 tyre.

I havent got the shock spacer in yet, so if it turns in too slow then id fit it and see if it helps.
Ive had nc30's where ive fitted 110 front tyres to get it to handle absolutely mint.
I think it should be ok, put it this way, nearly new tyres for £15 each i cant go wrong, and its still sh1t weather, so if i use these 190's up while its sh1t weather then get a 180 on when its warming up etc, id be happier, rather than killing decent expensive tyres haha.

the wider tyre gives a flatter profile, made it hard to get lent over far enough in corners felt like it was sliding, no peg grinding with them fitted, even tried jacking back up and dropped forks a little(my last bike was a cbr600f handling was sublime) then changed to 180, the difference was very noticeable, even took out jacking plates(cut up washers). The forks are the thorn at mo, getting them sorted as we speak, when I'm 500 notes lighter, I'll report the improvements gained.

I tried the 190/50 and was not impressed. It slows down the turn-in response noticeably, especially mid-corner. I am now running a 6" PVM rim in the back and have a 180/55 mounted on it. Perhaps a 190/55 would be the hot ticket though...

I think the only reason you would want to fit a 190 tyre would be if you were pushing out 150+ bhp (ie GSXR1000, new Blade, Busa etc.), need larger contact area to get that power down. Definately lose out on handling

I'll give it a try this week, bit play in the rear bearings on the 3 spoke so want this 6 spoke fitted asap.
Just had a ace ride out today tho, went upto Hartside, was awesome.

Im 5 mile north of Durham, basically im inbetween Durham and Chester-le-street.
Aye was good fun, still tons of snow about. Roads were soaked with running water, few aquaplaning moments haha. Lots of loose gravel on roads too, so pleased i wasn't following anyone.
Yeh man, ill throw u a pm next time im up that way, or next ride out i'll probs hit Hawes, etc.
Cant wait to get the KTM up hartside again
