bike cutting out
need a little advice on me replacement engine.
it seems to be running perfect but this morning on deserted motorway i decided to see what she could do and everything was fine until i got to 140mph ish then engine cut out so let throttle off and a few seconds later she was flying again until hitting 140mph ish and same happened again then went ok once slowed down.
full tank of fuel. temperature was fine and plenty oil in engine.
she has been jetted. k&n filter and race cans.
could it just be fuel shortage (hopefully) any ideas welcome

That is because that speed is very very very naughty, and the bike knows it!!!!!

Re: bike cutting out
refs was at about 5 or 6 thousand. and new fuel just filled up.
it did it again on sunday was out for about 3 hours riding with no probs but as soon as hitting that speed again for first time cut out then wouldnt start again. AA came cos battery was flat she started rite away with a jump. AA fella said me battery must be on its way out and when the fuel pump was working faster it took all the powere out of it. but if im not mistaken the vtr doesnt av a pump its worked on vacuum isnt it. got a new battery i bought last year and never used so i gonna try that this week.

Hi, Mark.
Where are you in the country?
Maybe a local forum member can cast an eye or ear over your bike- could be loads of things.
You're right about the non-fuel pump, though- there isn't one fitted as standard- gravity works fine, and it's free!

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

It sound like the valve timing could be 180 degrees out with it cutting out at around 5 or 6,000 rev's as I think Paul (Stratman) was also thinking. Check your valve timing using this method in the link below. You will how ever need to remove the front valve cover also to do this.mark skett wrote:refs was at about 5 or 6 thousand.

and http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... 6&start=30 8th post down (by me) explains how the front camlobes should be facing.

she only cuts out at high speed at these revs the bottom end at high revs is fine. and as for the vavle timing i not a good enough machanic to look at stuff like that so i dont wanna make her worse

Very sensible to leave well alone if you're not familiar with valve timingmark skett wrote:i am from wigan if anyone could have a peep at her.

Re: bike cutting out
hey mark, my mate had exactly the same problem on his vtr a while back, and he cured it, simply he had a split in the rubber diaphram in the fuel tap on the bottom of the tank, he phoned honda to get replacement, but they would only sell the whole tap at £170, but he found a bloke who works at victoria train station in manchester, i think he has a little place there, and he sells the repair kit for £20, you may have to just park up and walk around as i dont know the exact location, but will ask my mate where it is,
carl
ps, just asked him about shop, and it is a shop run by 2 bikers, they do leather repairs and carb repairs, and they import the repair kits, just tell them its the diaphram in your fuel tap, hope this is helpful
