Ok, I know I've done a lot of in town riding, heavy traffic and all that but 80 miles to a tank?! I'm starting to wonder of I've got petrol drinking bugs in me garage!
Anybody got any ideas if there's any way to keep that down (I don't mind when I've been giving it loads but...)

No, seriously. What pipes do you have? are you on original size sprockets? Is your air filter dirty? your valve clearances correct? Your plugs any good? do you fill up to the brim with the bike upright? Do you Know it has 4th,5th & 6th gears shall I go on?.....

Yup, standard pipes, original size sprockets, valves/plugs all good, even give it a little wiggle when I fill up!
But you got me on that 'gear' business. What are they again?

I never get past third, I live in London!

It also says in the hand book do not rev it into the red bit, did ya read it wrong.

Nah, really, nothing weird about it. Maybe I got a hole in my tank?

you are not alone...............me too. Sometimes high 80's to the tank full and yes thats town riding but still get 100 out of town till that red light comes on.
once got 120 before red light just after a service thought the gauge was wrong and it would splutter to a stop.
So i guess 80's ok for lots of town work........hope this helps

I've got an '03, with the (slightly)bigger tank, I get a fairly constant 40mpg whether I'm top gear pootling or 3/4 gear frapping

I'll agree with that.
I've always been a bit anal about fuel consumption and keep finding myself checking MPG.

Worst in winter(plenty of choke.spluttering to work) 32mpg
Same trip on a warm summer day 40-42 mpg
Best ever on a run (constant 75-80mph) 46mpg
Normal thrash through the lanes 38mpg

See what I mean

Mine does 35mpg usually. I have found that it helps if you cain the butt off it ......

He, He, 40MPG.......... lads........we got a gurly rider here.........

best i usually get is about 35mpg, (that's if i'm riding when i'm asleep....)
