Six pot brake conversion

Post by tony.mon »

Anyone done one?

I have to fit replacement calipers to a ZZR600 I blagged, and the Storm ones fit right on, with a little spacer and some new bolts.

So I'm wondering what to put on the Storm -replacements or upgrade?

Six pots might be fun- seems like Blackbird or Blade ones fit, as long as they're not from a USD front end, obviously, but you can also get Tokico's from Kawasaki's- and possibly some other bikes too.

Mounting hole spacing seems to be 62 or 63 mm, the difference seems to be how they're measured, rather than two different hole centre fittings.

Has anyone tried this?
I'm sure someone must have, but can't find anything on the searches.

Tony, according to some previous postings on this mod, it appears that the 6 pots are not necessarily the best mod. Have a word with Jonesey :!:

Maybe I'll just leave well enough alone- I was just going to see what I could achieve if I donated the std Storm brakes to the ZZR, and fitted something improved to the Storm.

Checking some Blackbird and X11 callipers at the moment to see if there's any advantage to be had there.

Cheers, Rich- couldn't find this for looking!

Hi Mate,

On my storm, I carried out the following brake mods and now I'm happy..

Fitted SP1 Master Cylinder
Goodridge Hoses
Tokico Calipers from GSXR600 / /750 K1 (fit straight on)
EBC HH pads
Valve bleed screws so you don't have to keep opening and closing them when you're bleeding the brakes...

Well sorted and cheap to do...

Hope that helps..

Mark

If you're interested I will have a radial master cylinder (Nissin- same as on a CBR Thou/GSXR) and a pair of GSXR600 K3 calipers coming up for sale shortly. New seals have been fitted to both calipers, and 3 x new pistons in one caliper. New genuine Suzuki brake pads as well.....I rebuilt the calipers and have done only 3 trackdays on them. They are going up for sale as I have a K5 front end (USD forks and radial calipers) to graft onto the front of the trackbike.

Let me know if your are interested. They are an awesome set of stoppers....much, much better than the 6 potters (loads of peeps swap the 6-potters out as they are renowned for being pants)
