Leather trousers advice
Leather trousers advice
Hello all,
Have never owned a pair of leather trousers but think it is time I invested now I have a 'proper' bike!
Been offered some almost new RST rift trousers for a good price. They feel comfortable when on the bike but when off they are really baggy around the thigh and crotch area. I am somewhat chicken-legged so may never get any off the shelf that are a snug fit, but these really are pretty baggy.
What do you think? Does this matter seeing as the rest fits ok and they feel comfy? Any ideas on the cost to get them taken in?
Cheers
James

Not so worried about how they look (ok I am a little) but more concerned that my understanding was they should be snug fitting for safety reasons...
In otherwords, is falling off in baggy trousers any worse than falling off in tight trousers?

leaves more room for panic poo posting....

It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

Best thing to do mate is go and try some new one on, the sizes vary wildly from make to make so find some that feel right. Modern leathers have leather and fabric streach panels so they are comfy when on or off the bike.
Regarging tightness/fit, I have always been lead to believe that they shoud be a good fit to hold the armour in place and also to hold you together in the event of an accident !!!
I got this 2 piece set of leathers the other month cheap as it is the end of line.

I remember Keith Code saying in his book that he used to ride aaround with a nice fitting snug suit. He bust them one day and had to borrow some that were too baggy. He then went two seconds a lap faster! Just goes to show that comfort always trumps looks!
Re: Leather trousers advice
it really depends on how baggy they are as the leather will give over time and they might get even more baggy still.

My brother in law's leathers were so baggy that one day he jumped on his bike in a hurry and sat on BOTH his own balls!
So not too baggy i say....

That's just wrong!
He must have a scrote like an old bin bag. Tell him to get it sorted

My new ride is a bit of a Howler and I love to make her Squeal
Re: Leather trousers advice
I was always told if they're too baggy there’s more chance of injury (like Jim said) armour moves and the leather can rip more easily during an off.
In saying that, you still need to be comfortable and have some "give". You need room to move in 'em too
not like Errol Brown
My mate had a set of 2 piece leathers made a Crowtree before they shut (lovely leathers they are, very jealous
) and they fit snugly and have stretch panels for comfort/fit. In no way do they look "baggy"-I know you'll not get the same fit with an off the peg suit, but this should give some indication of fit imo.

I didn't realise you only had one poorly positioned testicle TimTimbo wrote:
Re : one poorly positioned testicle caused me some pain in France recently, why? Cos i had pulled my leathers up tight and then got on bike. Leave em loose and all is well.

I was born with nothing and I still have most of it left.

I have the solution for baggy leathers

Mmmm.......pies

Mmmm.......pies
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

Re: Leather trousers advice
Nice one all.
I figure they are gonna be ok. Main thing seems to be comfort and they are tight around the knees where the armour is. If they do stretch loads more I can always get them adjusted and in the mean time I'll follow stratman's advice and get them pies down me!
Hopefully see some of you on a ride out one day and you can comment in person.
