Right i'll tell you the tale, i set off to work this morning needing petrol as the fuel light was on. Filled her to the brim & on my way i go or so i thought, just a couple of hundred yards later she starts sounding abit rough coughing and the revs dying off. Did a u-turn and gingerly took her home at low revs with my backside nipping as it would have been quite a bloody slog to push her home haha if i twisted the throttle too much she'd start again with the revs dying off, coughing and banging. Im not mechanically minded really so any advice would be much appreciated, Has some crap from the bottom of the tank done something and if so what and how do i rectify as its suppose to be nice this bank holiday weekend and i aint had her long
No i didnt put diesel innit but i did second guess myself and thought that
I bought the bike about three week ago, rode it up from down south and have been using it daily ever since and its been as sweet as a nut apart from me having to leave the choke out alittle when running. As for the lad that had it previously he had been using it on and off. Its done 16000 mile and is in need of some tlc, when the revs did die on me i pulled the choke right out and she fired up but again would only run at low revs really without coughing and spluttering
Fingers crossed problem solved, drained the carbs and changed the plugs put the tank back on and off she blew
Hopefully this is the end of that bloody problem

That sounds promising QL. It's certainly possible a spark plug was breaking down. Fingers crossed that's done the trick
If the tick over is too low (it should be around 1100-1200rpm's) try adjusting it by turning the black plastic knurled nut that can be found by putting your hand in through the trellis part of the frame on the righthand side (throttle side) of the bike, rather than pulling the choke out part way,
What bike have you bought mate? Glad the problem is now sorted.

I'm pretty sure I know what the problem was as I had it happen on my storm a couple of times. If I filled her right to the brim and then closed the fuel cap, she'd start normally, get a couple of hundred yards down the road and then start coughing with petrol coming out below the bike. (overflow pipe)
I think it creates a fuel lock by filling the VTR tank brim to the top, anyway all I did was open the fuel cap, close it again and then off she'd go right as rain, probably because the excess fuel had drained out of the tank through the breather.
Cheers Mark never thought about that one. Thinking about it when i took the tank off i did suck abit of the fuel through just to make sure there was no blockage then proceeded to check the air filter, change the plugs drain the carbs. Where were you before i did all this haha Id never heard of it been a problem before hopefully i'll never have the bloody problem again. Thanks for all your help guys
