correct me if i am wrong but if you try to push start it in 2nd gear and the back wheel doesnt lock up wouldnt this mean that it is not seized in the cyl. it would be easier if you could take out the plugs raise the back of the bike and try turning the back wheel by hand with no spark plugs it should turn.
but my money is on the starter. hope this helps . let us know of the outcome :confused

Yup, good idea.

But you're probably gonna have to free the inspection cover sometime, just be careful how you hit it when trying to use a drift.

If you tap four small centre punch marks in, and then place the punch at a 45 degree angle to the casing, drifting the cap in the "undoing" direction it should come loose after a few taps.
You can still refit it afterwards, but a new one is only a few pounds- three of four, from memory, and it comes complete with an O ring, so you don't need to order a separate one.

Try smearing the threads with a bit of CopperSlip- this will make it easier next time it has to undo.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

What did the bike do when it died?, any strange noises? have you tried bump starting it as you dont need the starter motor to bump it.

Mine started easy bumping it down a steep hill a month or so ago when my battery was buggered, but i just couldnt get it to go on the level ,even with a push ,infact i had to give someone else a go ,and they managed. Must be a knack to it :!:

Mechanic came !!!!!!!
ok guys have a guess............................
he took his time and after a couple of hours he found the problem,it was......................

the oil pump driven sprocket had come off, so the chain had come off and wrap itself up behind the clutch housing around the housing guide,
thank wombles, at first we thought the valves were bent etc etc as the engine only turned so far (by hand with a 17mm socket), we now know because of the chain!
he is going to take £100 including parts, which I think is bloody good considering he's already spent 2.5 hrs, stipping down the bike so far. :D
mark.

Result!! :biggrin

Now you can get the thing running as it should, and start enjoying it.

If the mechanic turns out ok, list him for anyone else in the area.

Good stuff.

Dont think anybody would have been able to guess that problem on here.

I'm inclined to agree with that statement Rich :)

Your mechanic certainly sounds to be on the ball :!: Not a normal fault on a Firestorm so he did well in finding it.

As Tony said, if he turns out to be good recommend him to others in your area.

Glad to hear at last you're getting somewhere :D

Chris.
