I've gone and done it today ! Im a wanabee biker for now .

Post by bikerpiker »

Well , after around 5 weeks of advertising my 'storm for a swap , and getting umpteen offers to buy mine ,i finally gave in today and sold it :(
Its been advertised on Gumtree for 5 weeks or so, had loads of offers but nothing i fancied,as i'm looking for a zrx1100 ,Bandit1200 ,or xjr1200 . I got offered 4 bandit 1200's,but all were semi-fightered,so i didnt want them. Also got offered a ZRX ,but initially i didnt fancy it as it was purple ,but phoned him back today and it was sold.

Anyway , i got a very good price i reckon ,from a fella who's been at me a few times to sell ,over the past weeks , and ,tbh i reckon the chap got a good bike ,he was well happy , plus he may well join this forum at some point ,as i recommended it to him,and left the forum sticker on the bellypan :!:

I had just re-advertised it on ebay as well ,i was still kinda stating i wanted a swap, but had to be carefull in my description as they pulled my previous listing of it only last week due to me using the "S" word

So here i am , Firestorm free :( ,....but with cash in hand , so possibly i'll have a better chance of gettin the bike i'm looking for at the price i'm looking to pay,as it's not every Bandit ,ZRX ,XJR owner who wants to swap for a Firestom around the same value as theirs,as most people want to upgrade to a newer bike than they currently have,....believe me ,ive contacted loads of owners :!:

Must say, i did like my 'storm ,and was only getting rid to try a change of riding position due to aches n pains , i just hope i've done the right thing ,cos i dont think i'll get a better lookin bike for the same money :?

I think FireStorms, although fairly old technology, are incredible value in the bang-for-the-bucks dept. A good 'un can be had for 1600ukp that will still thrill the pants off yer.
I know there are guys on here (no names etc) who have bought newer IL4's etc but they all look & sound the same IMHO. Might do everything clinically well but no soul.
Great value for money is a 'Storm. :plainsmile

Let us know asap as to what you get eh?

I tend to agree with that LSM. But its each to their own :)

The firestorm is a good bike. I really liked mine. The problem is the feel very, very old by anything todays standards (says he with a weezy old harley lump...)

But maybe thats why everyone tends to like em? They let you know your riding something, like you say, with some character? Without going flat chat everywhere?

Oh, define character as you so wish :biggrin

Back to the original thread...hope you get something sorted BP. I really like Bandit 1200's too. Seen some really nicely fettled Bandits recently 8)

Rich, you know he cured them, not worth mentioning. Emptied all the oil out to cure the smoke and araldite on the frame sorted it right out :)

Hey Warby.

So the old sawdust in the gearbox trick really worked? Great.

Hiya Gasman34. It'll be a good bike to you for sure. Just watch out for the woodworm :eek2

Ha ha ha ...whit a bunch of jokers  :!: .....dont forget i got the tips on this forum

Anyway ,i'm off to Newton Aycliffe in the morning ,leavin at 7AM (Sunday),to view a bike near err...not sure really , i know i cut off at Penrith and head for Barnard Castle ,it's near Stockton on Tees i think.

Hopefully i'll not be bikeless for much longer,...and if i buy it ,the 190 miles or so ride home will tell me if its more comfortable than my Firestorm ,which was the sole reason i sold it .
