Front Sprocket Retaining Bolt

Front Sprocket Retaining Bolt...

Is it just me that always has problems with the dam thing!
Managed to nearly shear another today on fitting new sprockets and have done in the past.
Not even using enough force, they just seem too soft of a metal or is it just me?

Managed to fit a similar bolt today, are there any decent steel ones out there?

I changed my front sprocket last week, no problems with the retaining bolt, but mine was on the original sprocket so no one else had touched it from new.

Perhaps someone else before you had fitted a different front sprocket and over tightened the bolt and that made it weak, so it sheared off. Are you using a torque wrench for re-tightening the bolt, if so it should be 54Nm according to the w/shop manual.

I fitted the front sprocket last time and it was torqued as per the Haynes.
Just found a higher grade steel bolt to use.

maybe you're just super strong? I took mine off on Friday, put it in gear and simply turn the wrench... the only issue is that it was very dirty... :-))
