Help!!! What to do!!! Quite urgent!

Post by custard »

Hey everyone,

Long time no speak. Been working away a fair bit so ain't had time to lurk on here!

Anyway, I'll get to the point quickly.

I've been offered an SP2, IIRC a 52 plate, with 16300 miles, FSH, both keys and originally supplied by a local dealer and has a fresh rear tyre. Only marks are a 5p sized piece of the red vtr sticker missing on the nearside and 2 small match head size rust dots on the top of the tank. Other than that nothing a light wash won't sort out.

A guy I know has taken it in PX and wants to get rid of it pretty sharpish as he only deals in cars really. Have heard it running and all is fine and will ride before I buy. He wants £3500 for it.
I think this is a really good price and am probably gonna go down and get it tomorrow, but would appreciate your inputs on if you think its a good deal and what to look out for.

The plan is to sell the current Storm, which is just shy of 19k miles on a 2001 X - what do you reckon is a fair price. Well looked after, in a pearl yellow.

Also, I only plan on keeping the SP2 for a few months and then selling it again. Cheapest SP2 on biketrader is £4700. What should I realistically expect to get for it in a couple months? It's white black and red BTW ;)

TA!

Sounds like a good deal, but remember that the offered price (especially in Bike Trader) is not what they'll actually sell for, and there's a lot of hopeful sellers out there who can't shift it at the price they put in the ad.

If you sell in a few months you'll be selling in a dropping market- less bikes shift in the Autumn. You might be stuck with it until next spring, in order to get a good price.

Your yellow one- in good nick, on a sunny day, maybe £1600, but you might have to drop to £1400 or even less to move it on, depending on how quickly you need the cash.

There's an SP2 on E-Blag at the moment for 99p, so bargains are out there (although to be fair it hasn't hit the reserve yet!)
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

I would take his hand off at the elbow, you will struggle to get a cleanish SP1 for that money. :D

cheers

IT HAS ARRIVED.

OMFG OMFG

It's class! I've given it a quick wash, and the panels are smooth again! Few little stone chips here and there, and needs a bit of autosol here and there and the chain lubed but thts it. Got it in for MOT first thing. Got it £3450 in the end.

One thing - back break is utter sh!!e! Barely works, push it right down and it'll stop you after a few seconds but not like it should be! I've adjusted the bar on the rearset but made bugger all difference. Now, could this be because of lack of fluid? I can't see through the little hole on the fairing to check the level!

Oh yeah...insurance - when I renewed the storm back in april I asked if I could change my bike at any time in the future. Yes Yes they said! I got quotes for SP1 and GSXR1000, they said at worst it'd go up to £39 a month. So I call em today.... Oh sorry sir, we don't deal with the insurance company who underwrite your policy anymore, we can't do the same deal. b8stard. After much rowing I've ended up Putting down £45 and paying £40 pm. Never mind.

Lack of rear brake seems to be due to:

No brake fluid! WTF! Oh well, little bro coming over to help me with an emergency fluid fill!

Any tips on how two numpties can do this easily? Bleeding etc? I'll have a sniff in workshop section

EDIT: Brake fluid topped up and bled. Not fantastic but good enough, and should hopefully now get through MOT. Found out the bike has been sat since last april doing bugger all!

I never thought I'd love any other bike as much as mellow yellow the storming love rocket, but I am falling fast for the sp2.

There'll always be a special place in my heart for the storm though :wink2
