Right then SP2 warts and all.
Right then SP2 warts and all.
I have been offered a good 56 (2007) plate SP2 as a part ex plus cash against the Blade from a dealer. I am not going into the details but I got such a good deal when I bought the Blade it 's not looking too bad on the loss front. The SP2 is black, original cans and has covered 9000 miles . What do you think its worth (dealer price) Will I hate it when I go down to try it out? Should I go for a Ducati instead? Come on, apart from putting in redex what are the bad points, CCTs? I think the depreciation situation is looking good for SPs. Please no I told you so's as I am not that chuffed with life at the mo (apart from Dysons they are mint).

Re: Right then SP2 warts and all.
parkers prices are always lower than real world prices. no CCT's to worry about on SP's. I'd sooner have a 3 year old SP2 than a spanking new Blade.
only riding one will tell ya if it suits though matey :wink2

Re: Right then SP2 warts and all.
I've had mine 5 days and I adore it already. It had been sat for ages and I got a good deal on it. Check my other posts for pics. When I first got it I thought the turn in was a bit crap. This was fixed by putting correct pressure in tyres lol. My mate has a gsxr1000 k3 and he rode the SP2 the other night and says it feels a lot racier and prefers it over his GSXR!
It's just a nice quick bike, lovely handling and psyco brakes. This is in comparison to the storm of course lol. Juicy though! I'm getting approx 50 miles to a tenner or thereabouts. Also, I don't seem to be able to go anywhere smoothly under 40mph. I don't seem to be getting out of 1,2 or 3rd very often due to it not liking being below 3k rpm and I haven't been on any big rides yet, and it gets bloody hot on your lower legs. It's going to be a classic though, so get a nice clean one while you can!
Prior to me getting this one, I looked at an 06 plate 8k miler in black for £6299 at Honda main stealer!
Still don't get this Redex malarky tho!

that was me putting the stuff in me SP1 as a 'precautionary' measure after she'd been laid up over the wintercustard wrote:Still don't get this Redex malarky tho!

probably a coincidence but 20 miles later I had a cracked head. oddly its the front one, whereas if it'd been an overheating issue you'd expect the rear to let go 1st. for the record its not an age or mileage related problem cos its a 'babied' '54 plater with only 7000 miles on the clock

Re: Right then SP2 warts and all.
Hmmnnn, I cant take it out till Wed eve and its pricey £6795 but he is offering me what I want for mine, prob due to the big mark up on the SP. Still undecided will report back after the test ride if it hasnt sold. I have always liked em but god knows how it will feel after riding the Blade for nearly 3000 miles

Re: Right then SP2 warts and all.
It'll feel a *lot* heavier than the blade. It will have a *lot* less power. The rear end will feel very firm (ooeeerr missus). The brakes wont have the power of the blade. It will roast you alive, and the steering lock is crappy (mega wide tank for a V-Twin). It will also feel a lot slower than a blade being revved hard. Depreciation will be less (SP2 swill become "classics"....nowhere near RC-30/45 territory though). Buying a bike to make money on, is a mugs game.
However, it will give you a hell of a buzz when you take the fairings off and see HRC on the cases. I still think that it is one of the most beautiful bikes to come out of Japan this century. You will get people talking about it where ever you go (wont happen on the 'blade). You *will* appreciate opening the garage and seeing it there. Ohh and it sounds fabulous.
Try it, test ride it, then sleep on it. Budget for a Power Commander, set of nice cans and a custom map.
Everyone should have a bit of HRC goodness at least once in their lives!

Re: Right then SP2 warts and all.
well after going through a few bikes R1 and ducati 748 last year i love the SP1 i've just got
and wont be changing in the forseable future ..
just fitted some high level microns( no baffles :wink2 ) which has made
it run smoother at low revs ( not that i found it that bad) .....
might sound daft but the SP is alot less 'manic' at speed than having an inline 4 screeming at you

Re: Right then SP2 warts and all.
Zak you have nearly talked me into it, that is good gen. As long as the test ride goes well and the bike is indeed pristine (ish) I may crumble......I will miss the slipper clutch and manic top end rush though (not that it was too wise using all the power)

Re: Right then SP2 warts and all.
Oh no, another one about to succumb to the SP thing, at the rate you are all going at, the SPs will outnumber the VTRs on this forum.
Go for it.
Good luck with the test ride.
Cheers
