Trust me ....go to the Fireblade sites and everybody is a fookin engine running in expert. I have not run any other bike engine in before as this is my first (and probably last) new bike. I am an engineer by trade and work on some serious bits of kit (does not mean I am an expert but I know metal)
I have no oil consumption problems on these

and I thrash the sh*t out of em on a regular basis 8)

Sod it back to twins for me I think :biggrin

Maybe it uses less oil than your Blade but does it use more fuel than the VTR?

I know it's no help but I've heard the same about R1s.
A litre every thousand miles. What I haven't heard though is does it get any better or worse with age?
or as the bores are glazed (if this is true) is it the best it's going to be right now :(

Me old Meriden Bonnie used to DREAM about a thousand miles to the litre.........
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

The 5-valve heads liked a drop by all accounts...... lots of little valve stem seals to go wrong!

Your not wrong there, a mate of ours had a Thunderace, that liked a fair drop of oil too :!:

The new R1 likes its petrol as well, very thirsty by all accounts.

Well, these new bikes aren't like the older V twins are they? I mean my yr 2000 Ducati '748' hasn't used a drop of oil in two months.............. mind you it hasn't used a drop of fuel either. Ran its crank on St Georges Day so now it's f*cked. Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr :mad2

Repairing a 916 engine to fit to it though :p

That's why I stayed with Honda LSM
Sure the Dukes are dead sexy and handle great but...they're just too delicate. Damn those Italians, they know how to enflame the heart but they just haven't got a clue on how to keep it running :sad2

P.S Good luck with the rebuild

+1 I toyed with a 999 when looking for the Blade replacement. SP's are really sexy though for a Jap.
