Turbo VTR any one done one?

Post by tim-e »

I've built a few turbo bikes / cars, was thinking of turboing my VTR any one fancy a kit of parts doing at the same time?
A nice mannered 200bhp would be easy enough.

Has any one done one?

Hi, thanks for that- the turbo looks small, & I think I would stick with carb's, EFI is nice but why have the complication?

Because it's much quicker (therefore cheaper) to set up on a dyno?
No need to keep pulling the carbs out and physically changing jets, just reprogram the FI.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.

I had some one tell me how they would do a ' proper turbo job' using EFI on a big jap four - they were 5K into it + hours and hours of time & then gave up!
This is a common out come, I've heard of it happening several times.

Often it's because the injectors are running near to or at their maximum, and the fuel doesn't atomise well (according to an article I read a while back, not from personal experience).

No amount of fiddling with the fuelling maps will help if the injectors aren't man enough for the job.

A lot of people have trouble getting the basic system set up, ending in never getting them any thing better than banging & poping.
Carb's can work very well, & theres less to go wrong on a vechicle that is tight for space.
