SP.....Collectible or not?

Post by Beamish »

On another site I have started to frequent a guy posted this question? I would like tohear your thoughts on the subject. Here it is :
How much of a collectors item is the RC51?

I know that the RC30 and the RC45 are highly sought after bikes, and quite expensive if you can find them for sale. And like the RC51, they are all homologation bikes.

I haven't been able to find production numbers for the RC51 (anyone?) but the 'speculation' I've read on the internet is that several thousand were built per year (perhaps not consistently over the production life of the RC51). The RC30 and the RC45 were both produced in far more limited numbers as I understand?

So how collectible is the RC51?

Discuss
This was my answer:
At the mo the SP1 will be the first to become collectable but in time the later limited colour SP2s will be very sought after. There were far more red SP1s produced than these, just my opinion though and I am biased.
I incuded a picture of mine to emphasise the point.

Simple answer-not yet. Defo will be in a few years. Dare I say...more so SP1's than 2's imo.

In saying that, I don't think they'll ever fit into the same slot as the rc30/45 et al. They were a different breed.

It's all comparative though innit Tim?

A RC51 picked up at today's prices (talking 3-4g for a minter) IS a good buy. Give it 3-5 years looked after...well stick a couple of grand on it?

RC30...now, at rock bottom (silly money)...God knows?

Desmo's? 50g new? Add at least a 3rd in 2-6 years? If we’re on about the 1198/1298 too early imo…

Like you've said-takes me back to my youth-and I'm a lot younger than most on here :P

Can remember being on Brid front with my Dad about 17 years ago and watching a ZXR750 go past on the back wheel 8) Always said I'd have one-never have-missed that "boat"...

Now they're (ZXR's) worth some coin but have reached a ceiling ££££ wise. And is it worth shelling that kind of money out for a old Kwak  probably-yes? If that's what you want?

BUT, I'm not willing to let this opportunity pass (SP) without a dable. Agree completely with what you've said.

The SP will never be at the level of some of it's predecessors/new bikes and/or "major" exoticer…but I'd like to have it on my list/in my garage 8)

Im looking :D and waiting :D
