Am I being a muppet or what?.! Bar riser problem

Post by Giddsy »

Right I got some GB moto bar risers and apparently they take 5 mins to fit. No instructions tho...

Got the clip on off fine but when I put the bar riser on the lug that previously held it in position seems to have nowhere to go. On top of that there is a bolt that goes into the bar riser that seems redundant...

I could just put them on and screw it up nice and tight and hope it holds but am a little wary of this as the handlebars are quite a way clear of the top.

What am I doing wrong?

Will take some piccys and then hopefully someone can shed some light.

Thanks - James

So can you see the lug in the first pic to the left? That locates into the semi circular cut out on the top of the forks. Where does it go with the risers in place? Thought that maybe they go into cicrcular cut out if you have the risers upside down as shown in that first pic. It's a bit messy though and it won't do anything to hold it in position.

Also there is a bolt that goes into the hole you can see on the riser. This came with the riser. What is the point in this?.! :mad2 Can't see where it would locate.

Either I am being a total muppet  or they sent me the wrong riser type...

Help! I wanna get 'em on and go play!

Right well eventually I found another topic that explained it all. (http://www.vtr1000.org/phpBB3/viewtopic ... rs+#p66153) Apparently I need to file that bolt down so it fits in the cut out above the forks - well they don't blaardy tel you that do they?.! Would've thought for 50 notes it would've come ready to go straight on.

As you and others have suggested Mark the lugs aren't essential so I've just done 'em up really tight. I will then file down bolts at some later stage. Thing is now... that even after pushing down on the bars the spacers can move left and right so really, what's the point in them anyway? Could've just raised the bars up surely? Waste of 50 quid me thinks!

Hey ho, lives and learns. Tomorrow will be the test ride now so will see what difference they make.

Cheers,

James

hmm

thats odd i would expect the 2 to be connected .

how much of the clip on is actually on the fork leg ?

mine is only raised 12mm , i dropped the yokes 6mm and i measured 6mm before i dropped em to the very top of the fork leg .

i cut 2 spacers , removed the little wire clip on the fork leg , put spacers on first then the clipon , the clipon sits flush with the top of the fork leg , i wouldnt go any higher.

fwiw my spacers will move if pushed hard but on the whole the are tight enough and dont rattle.

are you sure yours are right matey#?
