Hard Luggage

Post by Yellow Bellow »

Anyone know of any manufacturer that produces hard luggage systems for the storm, preferably 3 case type. Been looking for ages now but not really come up with anything :confused and was wondering if there is someone out there who has bought any good kit. Surely there is something about eh?

not found a 3 case system either, your choice these days are above with saddle bags or ventura with again saddle bags. Givi/kappa used to do a system but not listed anymore, another solution would be the monorack then modify a side case kit from another bike kit to fit, or you can by side case carriers then you need to make brackets to fit again the monorack. :eh:

I used to have a hard luggage system on mine, using Kappa cases and a Givi universal fitting kit with sideplates and top plate. It worked OK until I got the TDM for touring and took the gear off the Storm

The Storm looks the part there Strats, how is the TDM for touring? Would it be any good for two up long distance? If not what bikes would you recommend? When the kids get old enough to leave on there own I am thinking of getting something for me and the missus to tour on hence the questions.

TDM is great for touring - at least 55mpg and I did 63 mpg round The South of France last year going fairly steadily. Plus points then are, fuel consumption, upright position with plenty of room for sat nav etc, can get the pegs down (its a bloody long way though :D ) and tank range - could eke out 230 odd miles going steady. Will tour at a steady 85-90 no problem. Suspension is adjustable and brakes good (with sintered front pads)

On the minus side, a bit ponderous in keeping its line round bends, you have to work it to change direction quickly owing to the trail. I think its a bit on the slow side, so I will probably fit a bigger rear sprocket next year as I don't need it to do 130 but a bit quicker off the mark would be good. Throttle can be a bit jerky and the lower gearing should help this too.

They are great fun though and on the right roads will keep with most things - as for two up I couldn't say, but they are quite torquey.

sorry for off topic question, but Stratman, who modified your seat? :hijacked:

I am looking at getting a 2nd seat modified for a bit more comfort, but dont want to loose the overall look of the bike. yours looks subtle, but also reprofilied. what did you get done, did it improve, who did it?

It was done several years ago by a company called Bumwraps in Bognor, but the don't exist anymore. I does make a difference as I had 1" taken off the top and some off the sides for my ickle legs. Very comfy still mind you.

I had the TDM one done locally in Norwich by an upholsterer and he only charged £60, so these people are about and I'd ask the dealers if they know of anyone local.

Thanks for the info Stratman, I really need a bike that will do two up touring but the TDM does sound like a candidate.

Varadero is an excellent tourer, got the firestorm engine as well, handles real well even at high speed, roadtested one recently found it better than the pan and goldwing.
