Need some help fellas
My storm is a 1997 model and yellow in colour(Y-124P under the seat ) but I have been told Honda did 2 shades of yellow on this model. The reason I ask is when I bought the bike it had a belly pan added that has always looked a different shade to the bike. My mate I bought the bike off paid good money to have it painted and the painter said its the best match he can get. I dont think this is the case as it looks like the newer model yellow and not my egg yellow pearl paint. Is it me or has the storm got 2 yellow shades as I need to get it painted again as its bugging the butt off me. I think the painter has used the wrong shade of yellow as he never went by paint code apparently.
What colour is my bike ?
Re: What colour is my bike ?
Unless the bike has been re-sprayed in the past the paint code you found under the seat is the one for the bike.
Yellow so I’ve been told is one of the hardest colours to match it fades quite quickly so the code isn’t quite right, it’s a translucent colour to and it’s down to the number of thin layers of yellow paint over white primer to get the match.
The number of clear coat layers can change the intensity of the yellow to
Think your painter just found that out

Re: What colour is my bike ?
Cheers for that advice
.
But didnt Honda change the colour of the bike when it was facelifted hence early yellow and later yellow ? And if so what was the different paint code on the newer bike. I have seen newer storms than mine and they are a totally different yellow to the earlier bikes and to me its the newer washed out yellow(no offense to anyone) that my belly pan looks like so wanting a paint code if different.

Cheers Phil

That clears a lot up. It looks like the painter used the pearl flash yellow rather than my colour Y124p. Looks like a trip to the body shop. Thanks fellas.

Warby is right, the early yellow on the Firestorm is one of the hardest colours too match. In one light it may look close then the sun comes out and it doesn't, and vice-versa
My advice would be if you're not successful next time paint it black, but of course that's your choice as it's your bike

Re: What colour is my bike ?
I've got the Pearl Shiner, and Halfords do a pretty good colour match as long as they look up the right code in their Motorcycle section.
It's not falling off, it's an upgrade opportunity.
Re: What colour is my bike ?
Well spoke to a bike painter today and he said Honda pearl yellow is a horrible colour to match. His words were its easy to paint the bike
Anyway a different aproach is to be taken.I am getting him to paint the belly pan black along with my front mudguard and then that should tie in with my rear carbon black hugger. Then when funds allow I will get a Carbon front mudguard to match up. I feel this is better than paying money for yellow paint to stand back and think it doesnt match again. Also the bonus is I am halfway to a black bike if I get sick of yellow

Re: What colour is my bike ?
My bellypan (98 yellow, same as yours) looks slightly different to the rest of the bike in certain lights, esp. streetlight fluourescents. It is a very difficult colour to match as has been said in previous replies.
Two bikes, still only four cylinders!

Just don't ride at night, or at least, not in lit areas.Stratman wrote:My bellypan (98 yellow, same as yours) looks slightly different to the rest of the bike in certain lights, esp. streetlight fluourescents. It is a very difficult colour to match as has been said in previous replies.
Sorted!
