could be a bit of a bargain this, repairs have been done would be better as per honda ie body work etc.
1998 Firestorm, 47,000 miles, forks valved & sprung, proflex shock +4mm over standard, manual ccts', k&n, 50#slow 185#/190# mains, front carb slide mod, R6 throttle tube, Tank raised, Viper cans, Coerce fork brace, EBC lite front discs & pads.

Went for £2500.
Now if you just replace the bodywork and headlight, and fit some cans, that's a mint one for seriously good money.
And I know what you mean about a cat C, but IMO it only matters when you come to sell it.
(as long as the repairs were done properly).

Didn't know about insurance, but then as I'm now old, I only pay 2s/6d a year, so it doesn't matter much....

I thought once you got over fifty years old you didn't have to pay for insurance anyway! Better get s few thre'penny bits together then!!!
