Lutonstorm, did you get the bike running better? is it fixed now and was it the choke, or did you find something else?

Re: Firing on one cylinder
Hi AMC... Typical, not finishing off a post like that.!
Well yes and no. But mostly YES!
Got the valves serviced and noticed a big difference. Definately chugga-chugga not putt, putt, putt..
Since then i've found that the fuel tap diaphragm had a split in it so that caused the richening of the mixture and loss of power over 4000rpm or about 70mph. Now done a carb balance (got a set last weekend but not 100% sure if its correct - Phil will be getting a visit this week!) and got better results.
I'm now finding it's just a bit hesitant. only occassionally but again, nothing terminal.
So yes, much MUCH better now! And i'm still toying with taking the choke cable out for a check as it doesn't stay out when pulled. Sort of wanders back in. So that's another job - along with a compression test!
Regards

Re: Firing on one cylinder
Regarding your choke knob wandering back in, iirc ,if you pull back the rubber cover next to the knob, there is a plastic nut or similar
,give it a tighten with a spanner ,this will stop the problem with the knob returning by it's own accord

Cheers BP for the nut and choke idea. I'll certainly give it a try!
At least now I can get out and really enjoy the bike. It goes well and runs around town and i'm getting proper fuel economy (127-140miles per tank) as opposed to 60 before! See i'm a sensible rider (for now!!!)
Cheers everyone,
