Well, he's a tit then. Mine went after 35,000 miles on the way back from Wales. No warning, no rattles before.

Fit manual ones and enjoy peace of mind (and, IMHO, slightly better performance!)

This sounds just like what ive just had last night, bike has done 31,000 miles always been serviced, With no warning and no rattles before just got a big loud Banging and engine cut out..

Could you tell me how you got it fixed and the genral cost i may bee looking at ,if you dont mind :?

There will be others along who know better than I, but you are looking at a new CCT and probably two new inlet valves, possibly exhaust valves too. The engine will then need to have the valve timing adjusted by someone who knows what he's doing (plently get it wrong).

I reckon your looking at about £3-400

Yeh had that sort of figure in my mind,still not good when you dont have it :thumbdown: ,

just had a call from a part finder they have a engine on its way in from a stolen bike, at £517 including vat and delivery

This fella advertises the ones he makes on ebay, I've contacted him and he can turn a pair around in a couple of days, just needs a gasket to work from (or an old tensioner I suppose or maybe an accurate drawing!)
I will get a pair from him when finances allow put stoppers in mine but still would like manuals.

If anybody has sent him the gasket or an old one to copy, send me a PM, and I will order 2 more at the same time. Reading all these threads with bent valves has got me worried, it feels like Russian Roulette every time I ride the bike!! :end:

Yeah me to. Storm jockeys worst nightmare!! Sod the new set of tyres a pair of new CCT's me thinks.

If you want a bit of piece of mind you could always put the stoppers or rods in the standard tensioners, then at least if the tensioner fails it wont do any damage it should only take a couple of hours at most and won't cost anything. Thats how mine is now but the spring in the front one is weak, sometimes its fine but at others it makes a slight tac tac noise so I really want manual tensioners cause when the current tensioner is taking up the slack the engine sounds sweet!
