Myself, not as yet however I thought that I could enlighten some of you who are maybe unaware of speed traps and ANPR vehicles. We won't go into the Volvo driving traffic officer, it's a mandatory requirement to have a sense of humour by-pass prior to joining traffic or RPU.
I noted that Biker Piker spotted a vehicle with two rear facing cameras in the back doors at high level (you have a PM re that). If you see one of these, don't panic. It isn't a speed trap. It's an ANPR vehicle (automatic number plate recognition). You'll see this and pass it having a moment of paranoia and then you'll find a gang/gaggle/bunch of Police officers further along the road.
They aren't looking for us but they are looking at us as it's a lovely day and they all know what they'd be doing if they weren't working.
The van looks at number plates from which they can tell who's got no tax, insurance or MOT and also who's vehicle is stolen and which ones are being driven by scumbag criminals. They will get bikers too because there's nearly always a forward facing camera too.
So relax unless you're one of the above (I doubt anyone on here) in which case you're screwed and frankly deserve to be.
Speed traps on the other hand...... Most of these now have 750 - 900 yard/metre range and so they've seen you long before you have them. Other than that it remains to be there mainly to protect us good people of this fair isle. Hope this helps and ride safe, it's a jungle out there..... :wink2
