Is my starter motor on it's way.....

Need some experience here.
My 'storms starter motor is generally fine but when it's been for a good run I find that sometimes when I go to start her again she kind of turns over once, stops and has a little think about it and then fires up
Just one of those things or is something sinister happening??????
As always, any advice is greatly appreciated.

Mine always used to be better after a run. it was cold mornings that used to kill it off. Are you sure your battery is Okay?
Sometimes when they are on the way out they don't like being used after a charge (ride).

Check the connection on the starter motor under the rubber hood for corrosion, especially if you use it all year round. Might went over a few years as the fibre washes let in water until the starter ground to a halt. Now I give it a good dollop of vaseline to repel the crud... and to the starter as well....

Thanks for those tips Gents. The battery is always linked up to it's optimiser. She's only seen rain once in 5.5 years, plus is only ever hand washed but I'll do the vaseline thing and see how I go.

The cable inside can flex and start to fray, meaning that there is more resistance at one point or anohter.

Probably near the lower terminal where it joins the motor.

Check it by operating the starter while holding the cable along its length- if there's a hot spot there's your problem.

You could also check by running an auxiliary cable like a cooker 30 Amp lead with all of the conductors joined together both ends, and see if it fires up any easier. If it does, replace lead.
