Belly Pan touching down!!!

Post by AMCQ46 »

This is my 3rd post about bellypans, anyone would think I am fixated by them!

SO the new question is, do any of you have problems with aftermarket belly pans touching down in corners?

Just went out for a quick blat after fitting the new R/R, only jeans on, so not trying to get my knee down or out daft, but when I got home I noticed that the Moriwaki belly pan had grounded out on the RH side, middle and at the back. No marks on the hero blobs, so I am now worried that the belly pan will be the limiting factor in cornering, and if I am not carefull will lift the back wheel with the obvious consequences

My front forks are only dropped 3 mm, and the grounding was at the middle and rear, so That is not the problem. And I also increased the ride height of the bike in my last bit of shock fiddling, so it is 5 or 6mm higher than before I fitted the belly pan.

Any of you had similar?

Never had a belly pan on the VTR-did scuff pegs often-but did have a bp on the Fazer and scuffed it regular.

Is your suspension set up soft (silly question on a VTR1000F...:silent:) and, with all due respect, how much do you weigh?

Depends how you ride too...

i weigh about 13 stone mabe a bit over ive had my belly pan on the floor on a few right handers

this has only happend when i have been late for work and both times was on round about

its the powerbronze fairing it was painted 'teal' (jerz blue metalic) but now has a red line showing the base colour through where it has touched the floor,

i have since adjusted the front forks making hrm a bit stiffer

i used to have the original pegs with the stick out bolt and they would allways be touching down on the floor

ive fitted some diffrent race pegs with no rubber tops and the ride is a lot lot better and can feel whats happening with the tyres a lot more

Happens all the time on my track bike. The key is to not lean it over so far! :? Sounds obvious but true. Hang off a little more and turn in later. There's little you can do to increase the ride height...

Other than that, you get used to it but it obviously get's expensive! ;-)

Having thought about it a bit more, it may not have been the last run when it happend. 3 days earler I was out with the wife on the back, so it makes more sence that it happened 2 up, as
a) more weight over the back,
and
b) I cant lean off as far when 2 up, so the bike has to be leant over more for a given corner speed.

On the other questions:
I only weigh 13st in full riding kit, but I ride the Storm like my old 250 single cyl race bike and carry a lot of corner speed.
Suspension - Front forks sorted by Roger, so harder than std, and a more compliant WP back shock now, but set with more ride height.

And I have been told more than once that I dont lean off the bike enough, but my riding style is a bit more old school. I move about the bike to get my weight forward and to the inside of the bike, but it is never hanging off with my leg on the ground type stuff. Knee goes down about the same time as the foot pegs.....but I dont get the same feeling for the bike when I hang off more, so I stay with what works for me.

an example of me not leaning off far enough at redgate corner:

You know how to ride, so my only other advice is to pump the tyres up really hard!

you look very natural on the bike :)

i know what you mean, the corner and the speed dictate how much lean it need's, not the cool factor, some of those idiots think it makes them Rossi if they touch down a knee..... Rossi on a race rep in line 4 shouldnt get taken by a old VTR mid corner while he's pissing about with a off bike wobbeling knee down!

i hate those clowns that realy lean off the bike when there is no need too, they will try and get there knee down on a slow round about and be like realy dangeling off the bike and its not that far banked over... you can see the bike wobbleing with it's unstability. WHATS ALL THAT ABOUT THEN!
